About

Every day Farm trucks begin their day at the Distribution Market loading up with fresh fruits and
vegetables. The electric vehicles follow a predetermined route stopping at 4 to 5 scheduled locations per
day, including schools, parks, metro stations and other convenient locations that will become a routine
destination to purchase locally grown produce.
The trucks will join existing neighborhood Farmer’s Markets to inform people and farmers about the Farm
on Wheels program, get feedback from the users and distribute maps and schedules.

In August 2009, GOOD Magazine sponsored a design competition on how to reinvent the farmers market. Mia Lehrer + Associates, an internationally recognized landscape architecture firm, proposed the concept of a mobile farmer’s market, or Farm On Wheels, capable of delivering fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods across Los Angeles in specially configured trucks.

Since winning the competition, ML+A has been approached by a broad spectrum of community advocates, politicians, planners, and investors interested in launching the concept locally, with the long-term potential to expand to other cities and regions.
